Just some kid from the Chicago suburbs that moved to the southwest, went to law school, and ended up confronted with shifting ideals. My thoughts...boring and unedited.

winter storms, al sharpton, tax cuts and the US on it's way out...

winter has arrived...everywhere but the southwest. sure it is cold down here (atleast for albuquerque), but i want a good old fashioned, bone-chilling, snow blowing, instant frost bite type of winter. like what went down in chicago, a month's worth of snow overnight, temperatures rapidly dropping, planes skidding into neighborhood streets. now that is winter...take me home.

al sharpton is in advertising apparently...if you ask me the good reverend made a pact with the devil. i don't know if these commercials run anywhere but new mexico, but all i can say is wow...he must be hurting, because he sold out, with a capital "sold out"...al sharpton, defender of the little people, voice for the downtrodden, has become a spokesman for loanmax title loans...a leader in an industry designed to take advantage of people down on their luck, to legally rob the poor of their paychecks. and al sharpton is promoting this practice...in a state where payday loans have gotten out of control and are being investigated by the attorney general (all four feet of her). what happened to you al? is this your answer to jesse jackson's crusade to liberate multimillionaire crybaby t.o. from the oppressive life of being an insanely high paid athlete? sad...

in case you had hopes that maybe this country could right itself (although it is already decades too late)...the house steps in to save the day and extend tax cuts on dividends and capital gains. thank god for that. i was beginning to worry that when these ludicrous tax cuts expired we may again be able to get back to rebuilding this country, pulling back the reins on too much emphasis on capital and finance, close the gap between the disgustingly rich and the rest of us. won't be happening...filthy rich folks, who own a ridiculous portion of this country's wealth, will continue to get richer, corporations will continue to pay less and less taxes...and this country will continue it's slide from the top as the leading economic powerhouse.

my parent's were fortunate enough to not have to live through the great depression but be able to live through the hey day of this country, not 40-50 years past. once again a failure to study and learn from history will lead to a rapid decline for a global powerhouse...hell, it already is leading. the mistakes that the dutch and the british made before us have been repeated 10 fold...those glorious 90's that everyone was raving about, the strength of the economy then...turns out it was all a set up, the last great run by the insanely rich to lap the rest of the field, to stop building up american manufacturing and start looking ahead only to the next quarter. now it's over, by the time i hit retirement age this country will have become a lesson for china to ignore. oh well, was fun while it lasted...

the ones who love us best are the ones we'll lay to rest, and visit their graves on holidays at best...the ones who love us least are the ones we'll die to please...
