Just some kid from the Chicago suburbs that moved to the southwest, went to law school, and ended up confronted with shifting ideals. My thoughts...boring and unedited.

the return of american politics...

Obama was in albuquerque today to talk economics. he was scheduled to speak at little after 1:00, and the doors to the auditorium were set to open at 11:30. the line started forming first thing in the morning...by 11:00 it was too long not to let folks in. by 11:30 the line rounded the lobby, snaked down stairs and went outside. by noon it snaked through a few ballrooms and around the building. it was incredible to see the amount of people that came for a glimpse, a listen, or just to be a part of it all. perhaps most amazingly, the entire spectrum was represented, and repesented well. to see it up close and personal makes you realize something special is happening here...

something special enough to grab countless people from my generation. we've gone through a few presidential elections in our time...yet we've never had a candidate to speak for us - not just to us. we've never had a chance to not vote against a clinton or a bush. for many of us, we've never even had the opportunity to vote for a candidate for any national office that truly sells, believes and lives a simple, basic truth - we are all in this together.

for some time I've lamented the lack of such a voice, and the premature loss of the few that came before (for the sake of MLK, a re-born RFK, and Wellstone I truly hope there is a heaven awaiting)...and finally, one has returned.

whoever you support, whichever party you tow the line for, whichever fundamental beliefs you hold most dear - get out there and vote, hit the pavement, speak up for what is important. something is happening, the government of the people, by the people and for the people may just be getting returned to the people. take advantage of it, this is a watershed moment in american history, and we all deserve and owe it to one another to take part.

ready to go...
